Move a MODX site without losing what works
Scorchsoft has experience with MODX websites and their custom integrations. Our current service is to assess existing installations and, when it makes commercial sense, help migrate them to a suitable modern platform. We no longer propose new MODX builds.
MODX continues to be maintained. A decision to leave it may instead be driven by the fit of the editing workflow, ageing extras, bespoke PHP, support needs or plans to combine a site with an application. What to check before migrating MODX
A migration involves more than exporting pages. We identify the content model, custom logic and operational dependencies before recommending a target.
Content and templates
Map resources, TVs, templates and media to the new content model, including editorial preview and publishing.
Extras and custom logic
Review installed extras, snippets and bespoke PHP for behaviour that needs retaining, replacing or removing.
URLs and search visibility
Inventory important URLs, metadata and redirects, then test them alongside content on the new site.
Editors and integrations
Account for user roles, forms, APIs, CRM links, consent flows and the team's day-to-day editing needs.

Choose the destination after reviewing the system. A site, portal and content-heavy app may call for different plans.
MODX to Payload CMS
For structured content with a modern editor experience and a TypeScript-led site or application. Map fields, media, permissions and URLs before importing.
MODX to Laravel or Python
For portals with substantial business rules, integrations or data workflows. Separate content management needs from bespoke application logic.
Retain MODX while planning
If the current installation serves the business well, prioritise supported versions, documentation and a future migration plan rather than forcing an immediate move.
Move the site in phases
A staged approach may replace public pages first and keep a working integration or admin tool temporarily, with clear API and data boundaries.

Choose a destination on evidence
A content-led site may suit Payload CMS; a bespoke portal may need a Laravel or Python application, perhaps with a separate CMS. We compare editorial needs, development costs, integrations and ongoing support before proposing the change.
